Zen And Now Studio Assistant Requirements
1. Must sign up for current class
2. Must pay teacher fee upfront
3. Work credit of 8.00 per hour may be applied towards:
a. Remaining class fee
b. Lab Fee of 25.00 or 12.50 depending of class format
c. Rental rack fee of 50.00 per month
d. Any other items sold at Zen and Now, such as clay, tools, books and bats
4. Maximum work time of 32 hours per 8 week semester (4 hours per week) or 16 hours per 4 week semester (2 hours per week)
5. Must complete at least one semester as a Zen student.
Cost/hour break down:
$8.00 credit per hour may be applied towards:
Remaining class fee: 115.00 (8 week class)
Optional Pay-for rack: 50.00 per month. (100.00 per semester)
Lab fee: 25.00
Hours needed:
Class= 15 hours per 8 week semester
Rack= 13 hours per 8 week semester
Lab Fee= 3 hours per semester
Studio Assistants receive free workshop tickets. Students and Open Studio Members receive a discount on workshops. Discount to be determined for each workshop as costs will be different.
Studio Assistant Responsibilities
1. Mop floors in all clay rooms: glaze room, extra throwing room, common room
2. Take greenware back to kiln area
3. Bring up finished glaze ware and place on pick-up shelves
4. Load kilns with supervision
a. Rotate inventory by date
5. Unload kilns with supervision
6. Glaze room maintenance—Martie’s task
a. Maintain sink trap
b. Glaze bucket maintenance
c. General cleanup
d. Includes kitchen area clean up
7. Slop water maintenance with supervision
8. *Must be physically able to do all above tasks, no picking and choosing
• All jobs and days will be assigned at the beginning of each semester. If you can not perform your task for any day, you must find a replacement among the SA staff to do your job. If any day’s task is not performed in a semester, you will loose your privilege to be a Studio Assistant for any future semester.
• All credit earned must be used during that semester, no hang-overs allowed. Any remaining credit not used will be lost at the end of each semester period. No exceptions.
• Studio will accept 2 Studio Assistants per semester. If more than 2 apply for the position a drawing will be held.
• Time of task may be flexible, but must be performed on assigned day.
